If you were to ask SEO experts what the five key elements to good SEO are, it is pretty likely that every one of them will say linking building. For 2020 and beyond, link building is, and will likely continue to be, a key element to ranking high on Google.

I can vouch for this in 2020. I’ve started a multitude of websites in 2020, some with link building, and others without. All have very good content. What have I found? The sites of which I had invested time to build links too are doing really well now, around 4-5 months since creating them, whilst the others are extremely slow-burners: growing but at a much lower rate.

So getting strong links to your website really has the potential to project your website and its traffic to new eras. With this, here are four key areas of link building to think about to make sure they have the best SEO-juice for you.

Domain Authority

Domain authority is a metric, created by Moz, that states how likely a website is to rank highly on the search engine results page (SERP). The higher the domain authority score, the better.

For this reason, you’ll want to get as many high domain authority sites ranking to you as possible. This, in turn, will increase your website’s domain authority, improving the likelihood of your website ranking high.

As a general rule of thumb:

  • 0-10 suggests a very new website
  • 10-20 is not worth pursuing as does not contain much link juice
  • Most sites are 20-40 in domain authority and are good to get links from
  • 40-60 are really good and should aim for these
  • 60+ is the dream, but very hard to get links from such websites

Relevancy

You could get links from high domain authority (DA) sites. However, if they are not relevant to your site, or the anchor text is not relevant to the page it is linking to, it’s going to not carry much SEO-juice.

For example, a blog about how to care for babies that has a DA of 80 could link to a site about F1 and supercars – but, it’s not going to do the website much good as they are in different sectors.

Think of links as endorsements. The higher the DA endorsement in the same sector as you, the more link juice it will carry with it.

DoFollow Attribute

This is a must. With any link building, it is critical the link is a dofollow. Without a dofollow attribute to the ahref link, absolutely no SEO-juice will flow to your page. This website is great for showing if a page is indexable and carries link juice with it, or not.
