The pet food industry isn’t one that you may think about when it comes to online marketing, however the industry is booming now more than ever. In fact, the pet industry has been in a steady climb for more than a decade now. In 1994 the pet industry generated over $17 billion dollars in revenue. Jump ahead just 7 years into the future, where we are today, and the pet industry is now at over $50 billion a year. Worried about the economy hurting the pet industry, don’t be… as we can see from this trend, the pet industry is better than ever.

One company that has been killing it in the land of pet food, is PetFlow.com, which was started by Alex Zhardanovsky and Joe Speiser, who you may already be familiar with from Azoogle and EpicAdvertising. Since the company went live in March 2010, they are now pushing over $1 million a month in revenue and sales.

With all of that said, there is a lot to be learned from the team at PetFlow, and how they’ve taken their marketing skills from their previous jobs and turned it into a new multi-million dollar pet food delivery company. Let’s take a look at some of the creative ways PetFlow is bringing in new customers and growing their brand every day.

Search Marketing

Head over to Google and perform a search for “pet food”, and guess who’s on top? Sure enough, PetFlow! Since PetFlow knows that the majority of pet owners are going to sign up for auto renew on their pet food purchases, they are able to spend a decent amount of money on advertising for the company. Notice the ad copy headline “PetFlow Delivers Food to Your Door“, which gets the sales pitch across without even having to click the ad. The addition of the 5 stars and 255 seller ratings is also a huge plus. This is a perfect example of a winning ad copy.

Banner Advertising

In addition to search marketing, PetFlow has done a great job of marketing their site through banner advertising, specifically through web sites that are serving Google Adsense. With a wide variety of banners, PetFlow is able to show banners ads that target exactly what the customer is looking for. Notice how each of the banners below is for a different dog food brand name? If you are searching for “Wellness” dog food, you can bet their “Wellness” banner is going to show up!

Offline Advertising

Heck, PetFlow is so great at marketing, that it would crazy for them to not market to the offline audience. Well, it looks like they have that covered as well. We recently had a PetFlow.com flyer show up directly into our mailbox in an envelope with a bunch of other coupons. Wonder how they can possibly tell if their offline advertising is working? Check out the coupon code, VALNJ2. You can be sure they are testing success based on state and how many people place an order using their coupon code.

PetFlow Knows Marketing!

Besides that the company has a brilliant business concept, and that they are already doing over a million a month in sales, they are just killing it with their ad copies as well. This is how every business should be advertising and treating their customers. Through the use of coupons, customers will gladly sign up thinking they are getting a better deal than the next customer, and we all know we will do anything for our pets. But then again… not all services and products can be sold through the use of cute puppies and kittens, so I’m sure that helps!
