When it comes to starting a blog, there are many different platforms you can choose to go for to run your blog on. For the most of us, this will either be Google’s own Blogger or WordPress. However, the choice in which blogging can sometimes be a difficult one at the best of times. Each platform has its own benefits which could lure you into using it.

The favorite blogging platform used worldwide seems to be WordPress. For this reason, if you are interested in using WordPress or are unsure what blogging platform to use, you have come to the right place. Here are the main benefits you will get from using WordPress as the blogging platform for your website/blog.

#1 WordPress is Open Source

The main reason millions online are attracted to WordPress is simply because of the fact that it is an open source platform. This means it is a software that is run by a community that keeps growing day by day. The themes and plugins that are on WordPress are made by thousands of web developers. Think of it as Android for blogging (with Android being another good example of an open source platform).

Therefore, you are sure to find everything you need to make your website the way you want it to look and have all the features you want it to have too from the open source plugins, themes and more that come with using WordPress.

#2 SEO Friendly

As it stands by itself, WordPress is very good at being search engine friendly. The code that the websites run on, by default, already have a good level of SEO associated to them. This can then be improved if you choose to add SEO plugins and more SEOed themes to your website.

A particular favorite plugin of mine is Yoast, which tells bloggers how their article ranks in terms SEO based on a traffic light system of red, amber and green. To be fair, the majority of my articles hit the green traffic light icon as I naturally optimize my articles for search engines without realizing! However, there are a few occasions where the amber light appears and Yoast tells me exactly what I need to do to make the article better for search engines.

#3 Easy to Learn

One of the reasons bloggers choose platforms such as Blogger is because they feel it will be easier to learn the platform because it is by Google. However, the misconception is that WordPress is just as easy to learn. The way WordPress is laid out is intuitive in design and easy to navigate, Therefore, if you are a first time blogger, it would be far better to start with WordPress since 1) it is just as easy to learn as other platforms and 2) it seems to be the industry norm for blogging – it is always useful knowing the industry standard platform for blogging: especially if you want to move into freelance work too.
