watches and blogging

Some people have said, “You can tell a man’s wealth by the watches he wears and the cars he drives.” You find any truth in that? Anybody can get a credit card and buy an expensive watch. It may not exactly be the best indicator of wealth.

So I pose an important question today: Why do we wear watches and blog? In this post I’ll point out some interesting correlations between a watch and a blog.

1. Watches and blogs tell time

Well, not exactly. While not everyone likes to wear a watch around their wrist, we all love to know what time it is. Some still prefer to look down at their wristwatch and see what time it is. Heck, some watches even tell the date, the year, the month, and even the barometric pressure.

How does a blog tell time?

It doesn’t really. Some of my biggest pet peeves are time related you could say. I like to see when a post was written. There’s a desire in all of us to read fresh content and not outdated information. Just simply add the date to all of your posts.

Another thing a lot of bloggers could implement is coming out with content on a regular basis. How often are you updating your blog? Once or twice  month isn’t going to really cut it. You need to decide on a blogging schedule. If you want to take your blog to a new level, then I suggest blogging at a minimum of 3 to 5 times a week.

2. Watches and blogs and our persona

Whether you realize it or not, we blog and wear watches to help us feel sexier about our appearance. Some professionals feel naked without the added bling under their cuff links. Others like cool interchangeable watches that allow them to match the colors of their band with their shoes or other clothing aspects.

Have you ever taken a hard look at why you blog?

Maybe you blog because you need to make money. Maybe you just blog to express yourself. Or, maybe you blog because you want to help people. Interestingly enough, I’ve found that the blogs who seek to help people are the ones who make the most money.

3. What are people really thinking?

When you see a man with a nice watch, you know that he cares about his appearance. He wants you to know he has class. Can you show your class through your blog?

Yes, blogs happen to brand yourself as a leader in your chosen industry. Seek to be professional with your blog. Some of the things that make your blog look like an authority are:

  • easy navigation (can people easily find what they’re looking for?)
  • making it easy to contact you
  • ability to minimize, what I call, ‘eye pain’ (make sure you use 14 or 16 font, normal text and font, no caps, etc)
