Google release AdWords Ad Transparency earlier this week.  This is another step to make all ads relevant to all users.  Now you can limit the ads you see through search and Gmail.  Google is trying to combat spam and make the web and easier place to search.  A lot of this has to do with serving relevant ads to it’s customers.  Google took a step in the right direction today.

Starting today Google will be placing a Why these ads? link on all Google search results and Gmail.  In the top right hand corner you will now be able to see a Why these ads? which will allow you to see and limit the ads that are being shown.

As you see in the photo above you can now turn off ads that you dislike, much like hiding a post on Facebook.  It’s the exact same concept that Facebook has had for years with their ads, you can hide the ads and tell them why you don’t want to see them.  Finally Google is mimicking Facebook and their ads team.  One nice thing is you can hide individual advertiser or opt out from personalized ads in general.  I really like this feature cause I can hide those spammy ads that are way annoying.  Google says that this does not directly affect you ad ranking but I think that’s bull shit.  I think that this is another way for them to charge you more money for running shitty ads.  Bottom line, don’t run shitty ads and target people that don’t want to see your ads cause you will eventually be caught.

I wonder if when you go to block the ads if that counts as another impression, does anyone know the answer to this question?  It would be interesting to find this out because this could in the long term affect the CTR of your account and campaign credibility.  Not to mention it would drive up costs and get Google more money.
