Display Ads Written by 1

Potentially, this is the million-dollar question. What is the best combination to produce the highest CTR? Many publishers feel they know the answer to this problem. However, one publisher’s answer will differ to another publisher’s answer seeing that every website will have different tips to gaining a high CTR. For example, a website based on Google Adwords tips and tricks will have different successful combinations than a website on garden flowers because the visitors that are entering each respective website is different. However, there are still some ways you can look to increase your advert’s CTR through some general tips which you should be able to apply to every publisher and their website.

With all of the tips below, make sure that you experiment. If there was one tip you can take away from this article, it is to always experiment with every element of the publisher side to Adsense: the best way to make money with PPC is to fine tune your adverts.

Use Squarer Adverts

The long horizontal or short vertical adverts are generally not deemed as successful as the squarer adverts such as the 336×280 or 300×250 adverts. Therefore, when choosing what size advert to have, always make sure you look to choose the squarer advert first when experimenting. A reason for this may be that web users have become more aware of adverts typically being vertically long or horizontal: square adverts can be misinterpreted as a picture etc. Therefore, web users pay more attention to them.

Wrap Your Advert Around Content

Where should you place your advert? The location you choose your advert to be placed will be extremely significant in determining its CTR. Usually, the best places are just above or below the content. After you have put your advert in them two locations, it is sensible to make your advert wrap around your content through the following HTML code:

<div style=’display:block;float:left;margin: 5px 5px 5px 5px;’>

Your Adsense Code Here

</div>

This will make your advert look like this like I have tried on AskWillOnline.com:

Best Adsense Location For High CPC

As you can see, the HTML displays the 336×280 advert to the left of the content. This is a great location for a high CTR because 1) the advert is right next to the content they are reading and 2) when a web user loads a webpage, they always look to directly below the title of the article’s title presuming the content will be there.

Colour – Blend

Contrast vs blend. This is a common debate among publishers. From past experiences, I tend to find that blended adverts work better than contrast for the publisher and their website (remember contrasting adverts may annoy your web users). As well as this, it is wise to make the title of your advert the same as the link colour on your website. After this, to make sure you have properly blended your advert well with the theme of your website, make sure the URL and description of the advert is the same as the colour of your website’s content. Some publishers still feel they should make the URL green. However, you do not want to give your advert the stereotypical view of an advert (with the green URL).

Remember…Experiment!

I cannot remind you how important it is to experiment when using PPC. Below are all the aspects of PPC you can experiment with:

  • Size of advert.
  • Colour of advert.
  • Font size of advert.
  • Font of advert.
  • Ad categories blocked.
  • URLs blocked.
  • Location of adverts.
  • Type of advert.

Therefore, make sure you experiment with every aspect of PPC.
