For anyone new to Google AdWords and pay per click programs, it may seem daunting the tips and tricks you need to know to get you going as a successful advertiser. There is so much one can learn from PPC advertising it can be overwhelming. That’s why I have created this article. There are many new advertisers entering this market hoping to gain successful results without knowing what on earth to do. Here are a few tips you can use that will guide you from zero to hero as a PPC advertiser.

  1. Start safe. Have a high CPC to gain a good CTR and then lower the CPC which will keep CTR consistently high.
  2. Make sure you have an idea about what you need to know about PPC before you start.
  3. Use the most powerful words in the English Dictionary in your PPC advert – You, Money, New, Save, Results, Easy, Health, Safety, Love, Discovery, Proven and Guaranteed.
  4. Don’t enter bidding wars with competitors. You will lose money and become less cost efficient.
  5. Have a weekly budget and stick to it. Goal setting is very important in PPC.
  6. Target customers geographically to gain better conversion rates.
  7. Constantly analyse your competitors and their performance.
  8. Pick precise keywords that will gain you the most high quality traffic.
  9. Experiment and optimise your campaign to try and make it the best it can be.
  10. Trial and error your campaign to help you learn from mistakes and move on.
  11. Use negative keywords such as free, cheap and discount.
  12. Use a relevant landing page. For this, you must know the different types of landing pages you could use.
  13. Track your results (clicks, CTR, impressions etc.) in AdWords or your pay per click program.
  14. Analyse your landing page’s success in a part 1 and part 2 series I have done on Google Analytics.
  15. Analyse your keyword’s popularity via the Google Keyword Tool.
  16. Include a call to action in your adverts.
  17. Make sure AdWords is the right PPC program for you and not the alternatives to AdWords.
  18. Know the external factors that could affect your campaign such as competition, demand, economy, and advances in technology. Even Christmas can affect your campaign’s performance!
  19. Make sure PPC is the right advertising network to use for your needs and not the alternatives to PPC.
  20. Know how other external factors such as social media can affect the performance of your campaign for the better and worse.
  21. Know how to identify the signs of success in your campaign so you can continually keep the success rolling in.

These tips are only a guide to you becoming a more successful and experienced advertiser. I have placed links in some of points to help you achieve that tip easier. Yet, let me make clear that you are never going to become a good advertiser from reading countless articles like this. Yes, you are going to benefit from them. However, you will only gain valuable knowledge from a first person account of using AdWords and other PPC programs. I can tell you as much information as I want. But, if your not going to listen to me, it is pointless. The one person you can guarantee you will listen to is yourself. You can tell yourself not to make that mistake again and you can feel proud when you start becoming successful. So, after reading these tips, use them!
