How to catch up with your competitors in the Serp?

  • PPC is great to be on first page of Google and getting targeted traffic, and you should use PPC before putting efforts in Seo
  • The problem is that it can cost a lot of money, and some readers don’t click on ads.
  • So being in top of Google rankings is a must.

With recent penguin update many web sites have seen their rankings drop, whereas other have seen them going on top.

  • Did they do better Seo than others?
  • Well the results say yes.

So how can you catch up?

Before reading this post, know that I’m not an SEO expert but an Scpi expert, so don’t take my advice for gold, it’s just part of my experimentation’s.

Well as you know backlinks, quality backlinks are essential to rank well in the search engines.

So one thing you can do is to “spy” the backlinks of your competitors.

There are many tools that you can use:

Free tools:

  • Majestic SEO
  • Open Site Explorer
  • Bing Webmaster Tool

You can also use a paid tool like Market Samurai.

Just use one of these tool and put the URL of your competitors, and you will discover all their backlinks.

  • Open Site Explorer and Bing Webmaster Tool are great because they tell you which links are dofollow or nofollow.
  • Majestic SEO is great because it shows your backlink history, with non cumulative views of your links, number of nofollow links, number of domains linking to your site.

Market Samurai is great because you can see your anchor text profile:

  • Number of links for each keyword, domain name or first name for comments.
  • It seems that Google is now watching closely unnatural link profiles, so you should have diversified anchor texts.
  • As you may know both are useful, but dofollow links are much more powerful.
  • Once you’ve discovered the links, you just need to try to get links from the same websites, may it be press release, comments or directories…

I recommend to use also the Nofollow extension for Google Chrome, or the Nodofollow extension for Firefox.

  • These plugins will help you see what links are do or nofollow on any webpage of your browser.
  • It’s especially useful to see if comments are dofollow or not.

Last but not least you can use commentluv plugin, which will allow you to get backlinks from your comments to specific posts, instead of just to the root domain.
