We all know there are tens, if not hundreds, of ways you can gain traffic online. When looking at the top forms of traffic generation, there is, of course, PPC – pay a certain amount every time your advert is clicked on. There is SEO which looks into improving the organic ranking of a website so that you can gain an increase in traffic that way. Most people tend to use either PPC or SEO for gaining traffic. However, what if I told you that social media marketing can be just as effective as PPC or SEO? Here are a few reasons why you should concentrate on social media marketing.
The Possibilities are Endless
The first thing that is great about social media marketing is that there is always the possibility that whatever you are trying to promote can go viral. This is because:
- You promote something through social media to a contextual audience.
- Those that see what you are promoting are interested in it and will share/retweet it again.
- The audience/followers of that social media user will then see your promotion.
- Step 2 is repeated over and over and over again (how many times? How long is a piece of string)?
Although it could be argued that this can occur in SEO or PPC through the use of adding and implementing social media buttons onto a PPC landing page or website, the possibility of the promotion going viral is a lot stronger in social media marketing than it is with SEO or PPC.
Millions Use Social Media
One of the concerns advertisers have of using social media marketing is that the audience is not contextual enough to advertise to – this is just wrong. Yes, there are millions upon millions that use PPC and it is clear SEO will always attract contextual website. For social media, there are now millions upon millions, like PPC, using social media daily and the number is growing exponentially. You would be just plain wrong to assume that you cannot find the market you want to advertise to.
Social Media Allows Interaction
One thing social media has over PPC is that it allows your targeted web users to engagement and interact with the advertiser directly. This has many benefits such as:
- Interactions enables the targeted traffic to speak their mind to the advertiser, be it about the pros/cons of their product/service.
- Enables conversations between targeted traffic to occur.
- Makes you seem ‘less robot’ that you are interacting with your targeted traffic and not just sending them to a PPC landing page.
The one last thing I will say about social media is that you should not dis it before you try it. Give it a go because you will be surprised how well it does for you in comparison to SEO or PPC.
