When people start out their blogging careers, it is not uncommon that they are full of optimism and motivation to write content until their fingers cramp up. This is actually the case when the majority of us start new jobs and career paths. We are excited with a new prospect and like to dive straight into the situation, taking on as much work as possible. If only this feeling lasted!
The problem can occur when bloggers loses the innovation and creative mindset to blog about different unique matters. After all, copying content online will not generate traffic as will have poor SEO, especially against the competition. When bloggers run out of ideas to blog about, I like to thing of it as ‘Blogger’s block’ (see – a play on writer’s block…)
How do you overcome blogger’s block? Here are a few ways I have done this over the years.
Store all blogging ideas
Many bloggers, when it comes to writing content, will try to think of the idea when they sit down to write content at a planned time of the day – this is not a very effective way to come up with ideas. Not only is it pressurizing you to come up with an idea, the idea that you do come up with to blog about might not always be the best one at the time to write about.
What is much more effective is to keep a notepad (or use an App on your phone) to store down any blogging ideas you have whilst you are out and about. For me, some of my best blogging ideas have come at the weirdest times, such as playing football, watching a movie or eating food: not when I am sitting in front of a laptop trying to come up with ideas.
Sleep well, eat well and exercise
This is going to sound like a fitness blog now. However, the three pillars to a healthy life play a huge role in your productivity. By maintaining a healthy and balanced diet, resting the mind with sleep and refreshing it with exercise, you are able to make sure you are in a good mindset to blog and come up with new ideas.
Take Breaks
You can’t force ideas to come to your head and if they do, they won’t always be the best ones. Sometimes, it is actually more productive and healthier to simply take a break. If you have bloggers block, don’t resist it. Accept it and come back when it washes away. Many bloggers waste a lot of time with bloggers block when a simple 15 minute walk to get away from the desk can solve their problem.
