Making sure your content is search engine optimised is the root strength of any website. After all, the vast majority of traffic that will come to websites will come from search engines, with my websites averaging between 80-90%. This makes it clear just how crucial SEO is. If you improve your social media traffic by 10%, if it was 10%, that’s a 1% increase to your overall traffic. Apply the same theory to SEO traffic at 90%, well, you would have increased it by 9% – nearly all of your current social media traffic.
For this reason, it is important to understand how to optimise articles and contents for search engines, with the main being Google. Â Here are three specific tips formulated to help your SEO efforts for the fall of 2017.
#1 Write about Something New
Creating content content for niche topics that are either 1) new to the internet or 2) has very little content about it on the internet will significantly improve the SEO of your website. The problem that many bloggers are faced with is the question ‘what can I write about that is not already being wrote about on the internet?’ After all, to get good SEO, this is generally what happens. The best websites are those that write about something first.
For this reason, conduct a brainstorm session every now and then to spark new ideas for content that has low content on the internet already or is non-existent online. From this, you can safely say that, after publishing the content, you will rank very highly organically due to the low level of competition.
#2 Organise Your Categories
The labels or categories that you assign each of your articles does, in fact, play a part of the SEO efforts of that article. This is because the category/label signifies to search engines what the content of the article/content is about as a whole. From this, the search engine is more able to index the content.
However, categories play a role in how your results look organically. Take the below example:
The category of this poem analysis is ‘William Blake’, the author of the poem. From using such a category architecture, the poet’s name appears next to the URL, making the result seem more contextual to what the web user wants to view. This will help to improve the CTR of the advert.
#3 Include Meta-Descriptions
Meta-descriptions are a way to customise the description of your article/content on search engines to whatever you want.
This is because Google usually takes the first sentences of your content as the description to use for your organic search result. However, the first few sentences might not be good for SEO, poorly summarises the article well or doesn’t include keywords to improve SEO efforts. For this reason, by making your own meta-description, such as has been done for the above example, you can better optimise the description for search engines, improving the readability of your organic results increasing the CTR of it further.
