Online advertising first started out all the way back in 2000 (can you believe it has been 14 years since PPC was introduced to the world?) and since that moment, it has grown, been innovated and has had to reinvent itself to keep up with the fastest technological markets. The growth in the technological market is, to be quite frank, insane. If you thought that we would have smartphones faster than PCs 2-3 years ago, you would not have believed me. This makes it clear that PPC is going to have to keep up with technology and innovate again to stay ahead of (or keep up with) the latest trend. It is an interesting concept where PPC and online advertising will be in the future: especially around Google AdWords and Adsense. Here is my prediction (which could be right or wrong!) on what will be the future of online advertising.
PPC Will Continue To Rule
PPC has always dominated online advertising with banner advertising a distant second. Pay per click advertising is still the best source of advertising out there with the potential to bring thousands (if not millions) of highly targeted customers to a designated landing page to gain a conversion. There is no other form of advertising as good as PPC and I think you will start to see the gap between PPC and other forms of online advertising increase. You may have thought PPC dominates now but just you wait in 5 years and see the domination grow…
More Devices Will Have Optimised Advertising
When the iPad was first introduced all them years ago by Steve Jobs, a market was created which now brings in hundreds of millions of customers a year. Therefore, it made sense to create tablet optimised adverts for these devices.
2014 is going to be a big year for new markets emerging. For example, we already have the smartwatch and Google Glass is looking to be made publicly available on sale this year too. Both will be products that will change how we use technology. Both devices and markets will require optimised adverts.
Ultimately, more than anything, we will see online advertising grow exponentially: especially with PPC. More and more people will want to take advantage of a form of online advertising that gives the advertiser full control over their campaign, budget, CPC…just about everything! More and more big and small companies will use PPC to effectively advertise anything to anyone.
