Bing Ads

Bing and Google… Worst Enemies, or Best Friends?

Remember back in the day when Yahoo was king and nobody had even heard of Google? Those were the days… at least for Yahoo! Now Google is the king and when it comes to searching for anything on the internet, Google is where most people start.
There is no denying that Google has some of the best converting traffic in the world, simply because when someone wants to research or buy something, they do it with a simple Google search.
If you were to search for “pay per click” on Google, guess what you would find?
Yes! You would find Bing pay per click ads right at the top of the page? It’s actually interesting to see that Google is pushing a direct competitor than selling their own service (which can be seen on the right side of the page). I guess the millions of dollars Microsoft spends every month on pay per click marketing through Google Adwords is paying off nicely.

Wait… now don’t go bashing Bing too hard yet. Let’s see what happens when we search “pay per click” on Bing first.
Pay Per Click on Bing
Ah yes, what a surprise! Google is advertising on Bing as well!
There is nothing too surprising about this, as they are both two of the most dominant search marketing companies in the world and piggy backing off each other’s success. It is interesting to see that Bing is placed on a higher ranking for both sites though. I’m sure Bing is putting up as much money as they can to try and secure any new advertisers with their network versus losing them to Google.
A little friendly competition is good for everyone. This is also just another reminder that advertising on competitor sites good for your business model, even if you have to first swallow your pride.

Haha, that’s right! There’s nothing wrong with piggybacking on your competitors success as long as you’re competent enough to allow them to do the same with yours.
In fact, it would actually make them look worse or more “insecure” in their own competence if they didn’t allow them to advertise on their site. Allowing them to do so seems to suggest to the public, “Go ahead, but we’re really number one. We only let them advertise out of pittance.”
