For some websites and bloggers, this is the ‘million dollar’ question. You will find that, for most bloggers, for every 10 articles they make, 2-3 we gain no traffic at all, 4-5 will gain some traffic and the remaining 2-3 will become quite viral. The percentage of articles that become viral to a blogger will vary. For example, for my website AskWillOnline.com, I find that around four out of every ten articles becomes viral and gains traffic consistently. It’s one thing making an article viral. It’s another thing making an article that gains consistent amounts of traffic over long spells of time such as a year. In the below article, I will go through what makes an article gain consistent traffic over long periods of time. For bloggers, this is the type of content they will want to produce.Â
The best way to outline the elements that makes an article gain consistently high amounts of traffic is to look at a real life example. For this reason, I am going to look at one of the most successful article on PPC.org: 19 real reasons why Google bans your Adsense account. This article has the following elements:
It Uses Images
To maximise and article’s potential, always include images. This is because if you include images, your are enabling your article to be viewed from image search as well as normal web search. For some of my articles on my own website, I gain more traffic from image search results from it than from web search results!
It Has a Snappy Title
The title displays clearly exactly what the article is about. The fact that the article has ’19’ point will attract more people to clicking on it as, to the web user, if there are 19 reasons why their Adsense account is banned, there is more chance that they will find the actual reason to why it was banned.
It is Timeless
An important factor to making an article gain consistent traffic is that it has to be timeless. This means anyone can read it from any time period into the future and it can still prove useful to them. Adsense is a PPC program that is going to dominate PPC for many years into the future. Therefore, Adsense is a timeless topic. If anything, since technology is only going to improve, PPC will become more and more popular which means the audience that will want to read about PPC and Adsense is only going to increase.
Adsense Ban is a Popular Topic
Now that you know to gain consistent traffic, the topic needs to be timeless, the topic also needs to be a popular to gain high amounts of consistent traffic. Since Google are so strict on Adsense accounts, lots of people are left in the dark about why they were banned. Therefore, this is a popular topic many people will search for to find the reason why they were banned.
The problem with the two last points is that it can be somewhat difficult trying to write content about a topic which is popular and timeless at the same time. How will you know your topic will still be as popular in a year’s time? Foreshadowing future trends is important to gaining high consistent traffic on articles online.
