One of the most popular services for building backlinks to web sites is closing up shop. BuildMyRank has officially announced on their site that they are closing their site down due to Google de-indexing a ton of their sites and no longer being able to provide a quality service to their customers. Everyone was surprised a few weeks ago when BMR announced they were closing the doors for any new customers who wanted to join their network, as many expected that it was to maintain the quality the site had to offer. Looking back at it now, it’s was likely that BMR knew the pending closure was coming.

On a daily basis, we monitor our domain network to check metrics like page rank, indexed pages, etc. As with any link-building network, some de-indexing activity is expected and ours has been within a permissible range for the past two years. Unfortunately, this morning, our scripts and manual checks have determined that the overwhelming majority of our network has been de-indexed (by Google), as of March 19, 2012. In our wildest dreams, there’s no way we could have imagined this happening.
It had always been BMR’s philosophy that if we did things a bit different from other networks, we would not only have a better quality service to offer our users, but a longer life in this fickle industry. Sadly, it appears this was not the case.
Once again, another network and business falls to the mighty hands of Google. This is another example of how crucial it is NOT to sell text links through your web sites. While there is a massive influx of customers who are now looking for new link building solutions, it will be interesting to see which new service comes to rise and takes advantage of the situation.

Very interesting article. I did wonder how long this ‘Backlinking Bonanza’ could continue until the search engines step in! It happened with bulk email spam, I always knew that the link building spam would also come to an end. Eventually people will actually put the time in to get links from targeted websites instead of untargeted trash. Not only are targeted links beneficial to obtain targeted traffic and customers, it will also improve ranking under the new Google algorithms…

I couldn’t agree with you more. I think spammers will always find a way to get to the top and then be slapped to the bottom once they are figured out. Then they might actually put in the time it takes to rank. Thanks for the great comment!

Now that Google has become invincible. It beats everybody big and small. But as one said, they do not have to forget that affiliates are the ones that build their business over the years and so they need to re analyze their system. I said this because some genuine marketers following Google’s TOC 100% are victims of the slap.

I can’t say that I’m shocked.
The same happens with all other link schemes, it just goes to show that you shouldn’t rely on one thing when you link build. Spread them out all over the map, this prevents that you have to start all over.

Good quality links is always the best way to keep your site ranked. Build My Rank shutting down is just the first of many companies like this to be shut down.

I’m not sure whether to be sad or happy. Or totally indifferent. The reason is, I’ve heard from a webinar, that links from de-indexed pages is actually used to rank pages on hard keywords. The host was Dori Friend, and the example website was in the casino niche. Highly ranking on de-indexed links. So perhaps it’s not that big of a loss as it could’ve been, that BMR got sandboxed. Tough luck, some lads gets to find a new job, but the links apparently (according to Dori) claims some value.

Seems harder to predict the Big G these days, who seem to be acting as the big landlord bossing around his tenants. Any smart strategies that attract too much of its attention ought to watch out… I can see that many SEO agencies are literally sitting with their butt on the edge of their seats fearing that their clients’ websites will disappear or fall from grace if any SEO tools backfire.
